Message my old 86NA was "totaled" by rain. They gave me $1000 over the book value for it, plus I got to keep the car. I ended up selling the "totaled" car for book value meaning I got about $6,000 out of a car that was maybe worth $1,500. To top that off, they replaced my broken windshield (vandals) the same day it happened for free. A year later, some idiot kids took a Bic pen to my car and State Farm gave me enough to have my car completely repainted and have a couple hundred left over for tires. So, I don't know who the show-car guy is, but either he's being a jerk to the agent or that particular agent doesn't know what he's doing because the 3 State Farm agents I've worked with have all been great. Also, insurance doesn't cover "anything in the car." Just because he has receipts doesn't mean it's covered. Unless the agent (and policy) state that it is specifically covered, it's not. Most people assume that things like upgraded stereos etc are automatically covered ... not always the case. This of course varies by policy, but anytime I add something to my car, I tell my agent to be sure it's covered. I had a sub box/amp stolen out of my old 86NA before it was totaled and State Farm gave me enough $ to not only cover the rear window replacement and stereo ... I was actually able to upgrade to a better amp and subs. Don't get me wrong, I think the treatment I've gotten has been unusual - but I think that State Farm does a great job in at least getting the owner the money that they deserve (and in my case a good bit more).
